Did you know?

The Bards
The bards knew their songs and poems by heart, and nothing was written down. The instruments of bardism – the voice, the pipes, and stringed instrument, transmit their knowledge by sound. Just as there was no written record of saga and song, so there was no musical notation.
The sacred world of the Celts – Nigel Pennick

The Events

The June 2007"Celtic Thunder - 'Festival of the Celts & mediaeval Fayre" is full of not to be missed stand alone events that continue all through the festival, starting Friday the 1st of June through to Monday the 11th of June.

If you are a pipe band nut don't miss Sunday with the massed bands at the end of the day. Pipe Bands will feature all week at the dinner, ceilidh and in the street parade.

Street Parade    The Hon.

Maybe it's the kids (big ones and small ones) that you want to have entertained and bedazzled. Try the interactive Mediaeval Village all weekend with traditional mediaeval games, sword fighting school, archery school, catapult building, and heaps more.

Jumping castles, traditional fairy floss on a stick, merry-go-rounds, running races and it just goes on and on. Plenty to eat and drink from BBQ's, hamburgers, stuffed potato jackets, cappuccinos & cold drinks & haggis (we dare you to try it), there's something for all tastes.

Follow the street parade on Saturday morning to the showground and stay for the day. That night the Tattoo will stand the hairs up on the back of your neck so that you won't be able to go to sleep, a fantastic experience.

Minstrel  Pipe Band  The Celtic Choir

Catch up with the Australian Celtic Choir, Celtic Link (the Irish folk group) and wandering minstrels all from the Australian Institute of Celtic Studies. While you're about it chat with the Celtic Council of Australia or Clan Donald and rediscover your roots and history.

Have a crack at trying to play the Irish Whistle, Celtic Harp or the Bodhran (Celtic) Drum at one of the free workshops over the weekend.

By the end of it all you will be wanting to go to more Celtic events. Keep an eye on our web site as we list other Celtic events for you all year round!
